Can you believe that September has come to an end? It feels like yesterday that your children were walking into school for our first day. Every day each student is becoming more confident and comfortable in our classroom setting.

We had another short but exciting week. We are continuing to work on building routines, learning rules and expectations, and being responsible students.

This week we began our Reading Workshop program. First, the students explored the classroom to learn that readers don't just read books, they read the world! The kids looked around the room and read name tags, posters, numbers, and so much more. We realized that we are all readers!

The next day, each child received their very own book bin where they will store their reading workshop books. In the next few weeks your child will begin to come home with books to read at night at their appropriate reading level. There will be more information on that as we progress in our program!

In math this week we continued to study measurement. We went around the room and found things that were taller than us, shorter than us, and even the same size. Ask your child if they remember some of the things they measured themselves next to.

Jack McNally's family came in to celebrate his Super Kid Day. They shared cupcakes with the class and read the story "Exclamation Mark" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

Finn's family surprised us as our Mystery Readers this week. Finn's sister, Sofia, read the book "Mr. Tiger Goes Wild" by Peter Brown.

We are so excited that Thea's mom began our "extra Spanish" program this week. She will be coming in every other week for about a half an hour to give us a Spanish lesson. It was so much fun!

We are looking forward to meeting with you later today and tomorrow! Please keep in mind because conferences are so early this year, they will be less academically focused. We are hoping to be able to get to know you a little better, share with you what we have learned about your child, and come up with a goal together for your student this trimester and throughout the year.

Don't forget to stop by the book fair today or tomorrow during conferences!

See you soon,
Ms. Ardito
