Hi Families,

Next week on Friday, Oct. 30th we will be celebrating Halloween at school. At 8:45 that morning there will be a short program in the gym. The K-5 classes will be performing songs/skits they have practiced with our drama teacher Ms. Andrews. Parents are welcome to attend! Our classroom party will begin at 12:30 pm.

Children are welcome to wear their costumes to school. We strongly encourage bringing a change of clothes in case your student gets hot or uncomfortable during the day. We have a no weapon policy and masks must be able to be seen out of. Kids are allowed to bring props that may accompany their costume. We are looking forward to celebrating!

Lunch time update:

We've added a few minutes to our lunch period to ensure the kids have enough time to eat. We are pretty confident that the extra time, along with reminders for the kids that eating needs to happen along with talking, will do the trick.

We have been having many social emotional conversations as a class. This week we have been talking a lot about tattling. We began using a new phrase with the kids: "Are you in or out?" This is something we ask when a child comes up to tell on another student. It allows children to reflect on the purpose of their tattling-getting someone "into" trouble or "out" of danger. We have discussed with the kids how important it is to try and work it out together before involving a teacher and the importance of involving a teacher if there is any kind of danger.

On Tuesday, Amrita's mom came in as our Mystery Reader this week and read "Life Doesn't Frighten Me" by Maya Angelou and Puppy is Lost by Harriet Ziefert.

As a class we read the story "Spookley the Square Pumpkin" and then created our own unique pumpkins!

We also created our own halloween witches. They are hanging in the hallway. Come take a look!

Lila's family came in for her Super Kid Day and shared halloween cookies with the class and read "The Pout Pout Fish in the Big Big Dark" by Deborah Diesen.

Ms. Woltmann showed us a fun phonics song this week that teaches the sounds each letter makes. We had so much fun listening and singing to it. Check it out at home with your child!

Our week ended with an amazing event! We carved a pumpkin as a class, and when we pulled the top off...there was candy inside! How did it get there?! It was a magical mystery :) Each child was able to pick out one piece of candy to enjoy. It was so very exciting!

Have a wonderful and magical weekend,

Ms. Ardito
